Spirituality can mean something different to everyone. It can be the core of someone’s religious practice, or the intricate space within you that expresses who you are in your soul, or it can mean your connection to something bigger than yourself that is the creator of all things.

Spirituality awakens in you a love for humanity, the love of self, a sense of inner peace, and inspiring thoughts for those who have veered away from their true path. Once you begin to explore spirituality, it teaches you to see life through the eyes of an optimist; where cynicism cannot exist.

Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, men cannot live without a spiritual life. Buddha

Listen to the soothing, healing mantra by Namasté to help your mind focus while your read this post.

Namasté is a group of 25 musicians from around the world that came together to create a collection of mantras dedicated to the vision of Indian spiritual teacher Osho, who taught philosophy in his homeland before coming to the West to give instruction in meditation and other transformational practices. The result is Magical Healing Mantras, a soothing and nourishing album of Indian devotional chants.

Spiritual Awakening

When you begin exploring spirituality, you will find yourself leaning toward positive experiences that leave you feeling more peaceful and relaxed.

The desire to be a better, more positive person who serves the world and a global well-being can become strong as you practice spiritually awakening. Striving to be spiritual doesn’t just mean sitting in one place thinking pleasant thoughts. It’s a feeling that comes from within and prompts you to take action in some positive way.

A humble act of charity can be fulfilling and brighten your mood so that you’re feeling motivated to give more. This selflessness is a part of your spirituality, and at its core is what spirituality is all about.

Rumi’s verses:

“Whoever you may be, come

Even though you may be

an infidel, a pagan, or a

Fire worshipper, come

Our brotherhood is not one of despair

Though you have broken

Your vows of repentance a hundred

times, come.”

A Few Distinctive Signs of Your Awakening

Once you begin this journey of spiritual awakening you may start to feel a bit uncomfortable or lonely; like you’re the only person you know who is walking this path. Life can begin to feel a bit awkward and taxing on you some days, but let me assure you that the longer you follow your spiritual path, the easier it becomes to believe in yourself and your own unique spiritual purpose.

In turn, you will feel more confident to move forward and fully develop your inner-self.

Thinking with a spiritual mind will definitely feel like a new experience to you. While you’re working to change so many patterns from your past, some days you may find yourself wanting to slip back to the safety and comfort of your old way of life where you know what to expect.

It’s normal to have fears pop up; you’re human. But if you remind yourself that these fears don’t have to push you off of your path, then you can stay centred and brush them to the side to allow your new spiritual awakening to fill you with peace, love and acceptance of what life is

As Martin Luther King Jr. claims;

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
During Your Awakening You Will Experience Changes

It can start with your sleep being interrupted, due to being in continuous deep thought. Things can feel a bit upside down and sometimes you may even feel like you have lost your appetite. If this happens to you, make sure that you eat healthy foods and treat your body well. Doing this keeps your chakras clear and balanced, which will ultimately help you through your spiritual transformation.

Sometimes you may feel sudden rushes of adrenaline and the need to be on your toes can seem overwhelming. That is just your body wanting to move, so when the feeling strikes just go with it. Take a walk, run or a dance. Many spiritual leaders have shared how dancing helped them through their awakening and continues to encourage and elicit happy moments in their life.
During a spiritual awakening, you will likely come to develop a deep-centred love of nature and all of its creatures. Spirituality naturally moves you toward loving and respecting everyone and everything in the universe. It helps you to understand that everything is deeply connected and we are all one; connected by this divine Source energy.
You may feel a desire to be alone more often than you ever have before. That can be frustrating sometimes to the people in your life; however, it is important to honour that desire because this is just your spiritual body asking to be refreshed. Be sure to spend time in meditation, as it is important to your spiritual awakening.
Spirituality can open you up to receiving intuitive information about your past lives and urge you to give your attention to your past behaviour to clear out any fears or negative beliefs that are still lingering in your subconscious mind.
You may even begin to care less about the material things in the world and find yourself wanting to live life as modestly as possible. Your everyday stresses will take a backseat to your main goals of broadening your mind and pursuing your spiritual awakening. You may also find that you enjoy encouraging others to join you on the spiritual path.
Just as treasures are uncovered from the earth, so virtue appears from good deeds, and wisdom appears from a pure and peaceful mind. To walk safely through the maze of human life, one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of virtue. Buddha

After being opened to the spiritual awakening process you will find that over time your personality will develop into a fully-conscious being, feeling connected to the whole world.

Just know that this process takes time to develop within you. Of course, it varies from person to person, and while one might take a short time to reach the peak, others can take years to become fully aware of their potential.

Just as a child’s learning process gradually ripens from the time they are born until they reach the mature stage of adulthood; so too does an awakening.

Many times, your path to awareness begins with an occurrence or eye-opening moment that might have compelled you to rethink your life, your place in this world, or even the creator Himself. In more rare instances, there are cases where individuals are born with this awakening already activated. These people are usually more accepting of their transformation because it’s always been a part of their human nature.

Below are a few points to help ease your experiences during a spiritual awakening:

Releasing Your Misconceptions

Release your pre-conceived notions about life and the ‘who, what, where, when and why’s’ of how it should be. Feel the freedom of questioning yourself and everything you thought you knew, and you will grow more confident in the answers you receive to those questions.

If something doesn’t feel logical to you, then honour those feelings by not forcing yourself into believing them. There are many different ways to spiritually awaken, so just allow your path to take you on whatever journey that you are meant to experience.

Honour your own curiosity and trust that this is your unique path, which will ultimately lead you towards freedom from limiting thoughts and drive your own creative thought patterns.

Aligning Your Heart and Mind

Your heart is the most powerful force on your path to spiritual awakening. When it is in alignment with your mind, your will find that life flows more naturally. If you can allow your heart to open up and soften towards all of God’s creatures on this planet, you will more deeply feel your inner connection to people, nature and all living things.

The power of the heart manifests a stronger version of you and allows you more control over your feelings and emotions. The emotional balance between you heart and mind is beneficial for your soul purpose and helps you to strengthen your own intuition. Spiritual awakening will never deter you from your individual life purpose; it will only support you in achieving it.

Discovering Your Body Power

The practice of meditation, as well as other activities, will support you in thinking more positive thoughts and help you to feel more energised physically. As your mind becomes sharper, its physical structure also derives great strength; mostly because of your inner ability to think optimistically.

Remember that inner peace and a calm nature affects your whole being; giving you a sense of vigour and positivity. This awakens you to a renewed energy and rejuvenates you physically as well as mentally.

Connecting With All Living Things

A spiritually awakened person naturally focuses toward the betterment of society. As one feels more gentle and peaceful, it’s only natural to begin to notice the interconnectedness of everything around you.

You are no longer able to see things individually because your thoughts about this universe, and its living matrix, will create an intense desire to bond with society.

This realisation is why, during your spiritual awakening process, you may suddenly feel a deep love for humanity that you never knew before. It can give you great compassion for the well-being of all human beings, plants and animals.

Changing Your View of The World

A sudden interest in how the world’s different civilisations work, their traditions, culture, politics, etc. can take place within you and hold your attention. As your desire for this knowledge broadens, you can learn more about the world from books, movies or traveling to places you’ve never been.

You may even come across situations where your eyes are newly opened to a plight of injustice in this world, and you will feel compelled to take action and help. Charitable work can be so rewarding for the soul because of the sense of gratitude you feel when you give back.

The benefits of spiritual awakening are limitless and can carry you throughout your life. When you never stop learning you continue to reap the immense rewards that are there for your soul’s enjoyment. Awakening is not all work, as there are many joys that you will receive that can never be replaced by another thing.

Spiritual awakening is an on-going feeling of emotions that possess our minds and nudge us into a self-knowing or self-awareness.

Through a gradual process, our own inner guidance will direct us to make everlasting changes in our life patterns. Perhaps fear of these changes is the cause behind many people’s reluctance to spiritually awaken.

Some people even misinterpret that these internal urges to change are the cause of a mental illness or depression, when in fact it’s the fear and refusal to change that brings those conditions on. A fear of being different from others or being shunned by society can also add to the anxiety you may feel about experiencing an awakening.

An awakening is nothing to be afraid of. It is just the beginning stages of opening up to receiving the life that your soul truly desires. A spiritual person is a human being, just like everybody else. The only difference is in the way they view the world and perceive difficult experiences that happen to all of us. They are positive thinkers who don’t get pulled into a ‘gloom and doom’ way of thinking.

When you are spiritually awakened you can still live a normal life with your own beliefs and ways of moving through the world. Yes, you may have new friends who share your new interests, but that doesn’t make you strange or out of this world.

There’s no need to run away from the changes you are experiencing in your mind, body and life; embrace them and honour your soul’s desire to expand as a human being. When you move through your day, reinforcing your inner strengths into your daily routine, then your spiritual awakening will seamlessly flow into your existing life. It will help you solidify your strong points and let go of what does not serve you well.

Many spiritual leaders in our world were just regular people with a normal lifestyle, who eventually embraced spiritual awakening and went on to achieve great recognition for their work for the betterment of our society. You will notice that the virtue of serving humanity is one common denominator between all of them, yet, they were all unique in their way of expressing it.

We all have the choice of how we express our spiritual awakening.

There are only two ways to live your life.

One is as though nothing is a miracle.

The other is as though everything is a miracle

Albert Einstein

What many people would like to know is how to strengthen their ‘inner light’ or spiritual awakening, so that the torch of infinite wisdom keeps ablaze and continues to shine light with every passing step of your journey.

Grow Spiritually Through Meditation

Always choose a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed.

This is your time of devotion to inner peace and quiet. They say that prayer is asking God for help, and meditation is listening for His answers.

Take this time to let go and deeply reflect on anything you have needed guidance on. The more you practice meditation, the easier it gets to relax and quiet your mind at any time you feel the need to during your day.

Learn From Spiritual Books

There is a vast world of information out there on Spiritually Awakening that you can explore through books. You can explore religious texts or one of the many helpful books on spirituality from well-established authors.

One of my favourite books that I strongly recommend you begin with is Eckhart Tolle’s – The Power of Now. This enlightening book will help you to further understand your own spirituality, as well as teach you how to see your thoughts as passing clouds. You will learn how to separate your thoughts from who you are so that you can easily let go of any negativity.

Listen to Soulful Music

Music at its core is so vital for our mental wellbeing. There is a vast selection of music made available to us anywhere in an instant, making it easier than ever to relax when we need to. It’s a quick way to quiet and calm your mind, whether you’re at work, home, or somewhere in between.

Practice Yoga for Strength

Yoga is actually meditation in the form of physical exercise for the body. If possible, practice yoga in the morning to help you prepare your mind and body for the busy day ahead.

If you don’t like doing yoga, then you can opt for any other form of exercise that you enjoy. The point is to find something physical to help you release stress and negativity from your life so that you’re not being energetically blocked from your spiritual awakening.

Dance to the Tune of Spiritual Awakening

Dancing may seem silly as a way to open you to spiritually awakening, but it can actually be a tension reliever. As well, it will help energise and refresh you mentally and physically.

Dancing is very expressive, so pick a type of dance that best expresses your spirit so that you will have fun while you’re doing it.

Penning Your Experiences

Writing is a very cathartic experience when you share your thoughts, ideas and experiences. When you share that with others it creates a connection among other like-minded people; helping them deal with your shared experiences and giving them a voice through you.

You can write your own blog or write a book to express whatever you need to say; or you can just write in your own personal journal for no one else to see.

Either way, taking the thoughts out of your head and jotting them down on paper can release a lot of things that may weigh heavy on your mind.

It’s a wonderful way to un-clutter your mind and allow it to be at peace. The next time you are having trouble sleeping or having trouble concentrating, try writing down your thoughts.

Take them from your head and let them dance on the paper; you never know what insights might come up for you.

Join Spiritual Communities

Many spiritual groups and communities are available online for you to participate in to help you connect with others. These forums are very beneficial as people come together to share their own thoughts, feelings and beliefs with you and others.

When you begin talking with others who are going through similar spiritual awakening experiences as you are, you’ll quickly see that you are not alone.

I, myself am a part of a community called Spiritual Forums. Clicking on the link will take you to their website where you can sign up for free. Each member has their own individual experience with spirituality and most are willing to help with any spiritual based questions that you may have.

Traveling the World

Traveling gives you first-hand knowledge of other places, cultures and people. When we see how different our lives may be from people who live in different parts of the world, we also realise that we share so many similarities.

That is when we can begin to truly feel the oneness connection which allows us to open our hearts fully to spiritual awakening. When we witness another’s’ sufferings, it wakes inside of us a new level of compassion and charity.

Get Involved and Help Humanity

Nothing gives us more joy than being of service to others. Charity in any shape or form is showing gratitude for all that we have. When we give, we are essentially receiving love back in return.

Spreading Love

Lastly, I encourage you to spread love to the world as part of your spiritual awakening. It needn’t be anything elaborate; a small act of caring to a stranger; showing affection to the important people in your life; or just being kind to animals. It all adds up to a big difference to the world and fills you with great joy in your life.

Let me end with this quote by St. Francis of Assisi:

Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible
